March 2012 Update

Much has happened in recent weeks regarding the building project which bodes well for our plans to begin building in May 2012. Many of you will recall that various technical changes needed to be made to the building plans due to City Council requirements, as well as engineering requirements. These changes have taken some time, however we are happy to tell you that all necessary changes have been effected and we received the final changed plans from the engineers on Thursday 1st March 2012.

You will have noticed the holes that have been cut into the tar area in our parking lot. This was done in order to allow the engineers to do the necessary geotechnical tests on the soil composition of our site. As a result one or two changes were made to the engineers drawings regarding the structure of the foundations, however these changes have not been drastic and should have limited financial implications.

Having now received the finalised engineering drawings, they have been submitted to our quantity surveyor who is preparing a bill of quantities. Once we have received the completed bill of quantities, we will have a fair idea of what each part of phase 1 and phase 2 is going to cost. (You will remember from our Congregation meeting of 26 January 2011 where it was presented and agreed that the building process would happen in two phases, phase 1 being the entrance hall, administration offices, training rooms and coffee shop-hall alterations. Phase 2 will be the new sanctuary). Thereafter we will prepare  a detailed cash flow analysis to determine the funding requirement for each phase of the project. If we have the required funds available we will be able to proceed with the building.  If however it transpires we do not have sufficient funds we will tackle the issue at that time.

In terms of finances, the pledges made towards this project last April are being honoured and we anticipate that by the end of April 2012 we will have over R4million in the bank, R1million still to be collected. Thank you to everyone for your continued commitment to the Lords work.

In closing I would like to say that Council remains committed to the vision of the “Making an Impact” program and the resulting decision to build. We are excited by the opportunities the new facilities will provide us which in turn will enable some of the outcomes of the “Making an Impact” program to become a reality. This is Gods’ plan through us. Let’s make it happen through faithful obedience, being led by the Spirit. I am reminded of our guiding scripture for the program “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:12-13.
