At last night’s Special Meeting of the Congregation which was called to discuss the pastorate here at St Mungo’s, the Council after much prayer, reading of Scripture, reflection and research into the process required by our Constitution, put forward two recommendations with which were discussed and then voted on by the Congregation. The recommendations adopted at the meeting are:
The Church Council recommends that we begin the search and call a minister to join the existing ministerial team.
It is Council’s recommendation that St Mungo’s United Church approves the proposed Search Committee in order to proceed with the calling of the minister God wishes to join the ministry team here.
The Search Committee may co-opt members to their team for specific purposes.
These two recommendations now become the resolutions of St Mungo’s United Church.
The Search Committee Comprises of :
* John Ernstzen(chairperson)
* Jeremy Pollock
* Rod Eaton
* Trueman Goba
* Pasquin Julies
* Bob Eyre
* Sheila Hunt
* Mike Groch
* Christine Morris
* Selaotswe Tsintsing
* Mukondi Ramulondi
* Jackie Barker (Observer for Training)
* Liaison Committee Representative (Observer)
The Search Committee’s responsibilities include: formulating a job description, advertising the position within the 2 denominations, following the application process, reviewing applicants, conducting interviews. Once they are at this stage, they’ll select candidate(s) to preach at both churches. They will bring a final recommendation to Council who will then call a special meeting of the Congregation. Throughout this process they will maintain records and communicate to Congregation.
Council wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and attendance at last night’s meeting and that you will continue to pray for God’s guidance as we move forward. 2 Peter 1: 3-11 has meant a great deal to me lately:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
