A mid year update

Dear FriendsImage

We are almost at the end of the first half of the year.  Each day that passes, I am more conscious of grace (the unmerited love of God, given to those who do not deserve it), that our lives are undergirded by this grace. I have come to realise as well that St Mungo’s has been the recipients of that Grace – that God has been holding me, you and His Church by His grace.

Paul was always aware of how grace manifests itself in the lives of the people of God.  He writes to the Philippians 1:  3-11:

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

We are having our Vision and Budget 2012/13 meeting on Monday 25 June to share with you the vision and how it will be resourced.  The vision contained in the 2004 Strategic Plan and the Making an Impact Programme remains the direction we are taking as the Lord leads us.  Please diarise the date – we would love all of you to come to the meeting.

The Church Council will present a budget reflecting a deficit of R575,400 for the year 2012/13.  We have discussed the following action points, that we want to share with you:

•An appeal to be made to any members who have not already made a pledge
•An appeal to those who are already pledging to increase their contribution
•Should this not fully cover the deficit then Council will look again to Portfolios to cut back on ministry and costs
•Should there still be a deficit then this will be offset against the accumulated reserves.

We believe that increasing the capacity of our ministerial team by calling a third minister as well as the building alterations will draw more people into the Kingdom which will lead to an increase in contributions.

In order to facilitate the smooth running of the meeting on Monday 25 June, any queries or concerns should be submitted to Iain Morrison on 011 465 1396 or iainfm@mweb.co.za ahead of time so that the necessary preparations can be made.

We give thanks to God for the many of you who give so generously to the life, ministry and mission of St Mungo’s “to know the Lord Jesus intimately, to share His love and truth passionately”.  We know that through the grace of God we will continue to contribute to the work of the Church.

I ask you to review any contributions you are already making to St Mungo’s to see whether God is leading you to increase your giving.  If you’re not already pledging please pray about making a commitment to regular financial giving to the ministry and mission of St Mungo’s.

Remember that your gifts to the work of the Kingdom are a

“fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, please to God, and my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  To our God and Father, be glory forever and ever.  Amen. (Phil 4: 18b-20)

Mukondi and members of the Church Council join me in thanking you for your partnership in the work of the Kingdom.
